Koolagain FAQ

About the Product

What is Koolagain?

Koolagain is a purpose-built, reusable cooling insert that fits inside a racing suit or riding jacket. Its mounting system holds it against the rider’s back to maintain good contact while riding.

What’s inside Koolagain?

Koolagain is a sealed, heat-welded cooling insert with an internal foam core and a proprietary cooling formula developed by Chill Factor. Chill Factor does not publish the exact formula or manufacturing specifications.

Is Koolagain reusable?

Yes. Cool it, use it, return it to a freezer or ice chest, and use it again.

Cooling Performance

How long does Koolagain stay cold?

Riders typically report about 45–55 minutes when Koolagain starts in a freezer and about 35–45 minutes when it starts in an ice chest. Actual cooling time can vary with conditions and use.

Can I keep Koolagain in a refrigerator?

Yes. Some riders use a refrigerator when they want Koolagain cool but not fully frozen.

How do I prepare Koolagain before riding?

Place Koolagain in a freezer, refrigerator, or ice chest before use. A freezer provides the longest cooling time, while an ice chest works well for re-cooling the insert during a track day or ride.

Fitment

Where does Koolagain fit?

Koolagain sits inside the racing suit or riding jacket, typically between the rider’s base layer and a back protector or compatible airbag setup.

Does it work with a back protector?

Yes. Koolagain can hang from a compatible back protector using its own straps. The back protector does not require permanent modifications.

Will it work with an airbag system?

Many airbag-equipped suits and jackets can accommodate Koolagain, but installation varies by system. Keep Koolagain and its straps clear of deployment areas and moving airbag components, and follow the airbag manufacturer’s requirements.

Does Koolagain require permanent modifications to my gear?

No. Koolagain uses its own straps and mounting points, so compatible riding gear and back protectors do not need to be cut, drilled, sewn, or permanently modified.

Does Koolagain fit every racing suit or jacket?

Koolagain works with many racing suits, riding jackets, back protectors, and airbag-equipped setups, but gear construction varies. Check that the insert can sit securely against the rider’s back without interfering with normal movement or protective equipment.

How do I know if Koolagain is positioned correctly?

Koolagain should sit near the upper and center portion of the rider’s back with good body contact. Before riding, check the fit while standing, seated, and in a normal riding position to make sure the insert stays secure and does not interfere with movement.

Care & Safety

Can I heat Koolagain?

No. Koolagain is for cold use only. Do not heat it in a microwave, oven, hot water, dryer, vehicle heater, or any other heat source.

How do I clean Koolagain?

Use a gentle surface-cleaning method and allow Koolagain to dry before storage. Avoid anything that could puncture, cut, abrade, or overheat the outer shell.

How should I store Koolagain?

Store Koolagain clean and dry in a location where the outer shell, straps, and snaps will not be cut, crushed, punctured, or exposed to excessive heat. It may also be kept chilled or frozen between uses when convenient.

What should I do if I notice damage or a leak?

Stop using the product and contact Chill Factor for support. Do not continue using a Koolagain with damaged fabric, seams, snaps, straps, or visible leakage.

Can I use Koolagain on the street?

Yes. Koolagain was developed around track use, but riders can also use it with compatible street-riding jackets and protective gear.
